These days, the old traditional open and swinging doors have been replaced by overhead doors to a larger extent. Overhead doors used for home residential structures are pretty much the same with many of the ones being used for commercial and industrial buildings. Unlike traditional garage doors, overhead doors can be opened manually or by a garage door opener.
Overhead Garage Doors come in many designs and colour choice; however, up and over garage door, roller door and sectional doors are the most popular and preferred type of designs. Out of the three, the "up and over garage door" design is the oldest and is a single panel which is pulled up from the bottom and raised up to the ceiling of the garage. Roller garage doors are constructed of a number of small sections all joined together to form a single large panel unit. The third design are sectional garage doors, which are made from 3 - 4 panels with each being  joined with hinges or axles which help them to glide roll up into the coil overhead.
